Bio:
Vivien Russe was
born in Seattle Washington and raised in Cleveland Ohio. After graduating
from Radcliffe in 1967 with honors in psychology and visual studies, she
entered the Boston School of the Museum of Fine Arts Diploma program,
finishing in 1976. She married and moved to Maine in 1977 and has been
painting in Maine for over thirty years.
She has exhibited mostly in Maine, with work in collections across the
country and overseas. In 1991 she was awarded the Bingham Fellowship to
attend the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and was a member
and past president of Peregrine Press, and has exhibited on several
occasions at the Center for Maine Contempory Art.
In addition to painting, she has been an island caretaker, taught the art
program at the Breakwater School in Portland, and in recent years has
worked with the elderly in long term care and at Maine Medical Center.
