Statement:
Since moving to Maine
from Brooklyn, NY in 2006, my work has been influenced by both the
physical landscape of Maine and the internal effects of transition. The
bodies of work that have developed continue my investigation into time and
memory, set within a landscape construct. In my studio practice, I
reintroduced painted and cut paper into my paintings,
recalling earlier works that combined printmaking, stencil cutting and
spray-painting.
Lost
and Found, 2009, was based on vintage photos of anonymous children.
This commenced a passage into the narrative as well as being a conceptual
meditation on time.
2010’s
American Gothic may be understood as a set of short stories
featuring castoffs and humble dwellings as the subjects as they interact
with the natural world.
A brief
series, Love Letters, 2010, positions Romantic phrasing or ideals
in intimate landscapes and references Victorian design.
Place, 2011, emphasizes a specific environ and time with particular
interest in remote or cloistered settings that provide a quiet and
introspective moment for the viewer and myself.
Also
current in my studio practice, Cast in Amber, offers a symbolically
emotional account of objects and places that are encountered off the
beaten path.
