statement:
At the
age of 65 I am beginning to fully understand the nature of my work.
When
asked to describe it, my response, as a young artist, was longwinded,
convoluted and I think tedious and boring. Now I reply that it is a
combination of Shaker furniture and Haiku poetry in that it gives one the
sense that there is a real reason for it's presence and that there is
always
an undercurrent of narrative.
Recently
I have come to understand that the main difference (other than stylistic)
between my work and most of what I see is the nature of time found in it.
It seems
that the majority of work I have seen is imbued with the past tense and
sometimes with only the present. (a feeling of NOW!). I have come to
believe that
my work incorporates the past, the present and the continuation of time.
A sense of looking towards the future.
