Compression Series

The Compression Series was painted in 2010. It comprises a group of small
paintings compressed from a larger scale in my mind. The paintings are not
details. And the larger scale exists only in the way the paintings are
numbered. The number sequence provides a method for me to construct this
scale in my imagination. It is an entirely arbitrary device. It is
abstract. it is personal. That is, until someone sees painting 055 as 144,
for example. Then the number sequence would play a role as visual
language.
